…move, still, capture, last

i think what fascinates me the most about photography is the fact that you capture a moment. yeah, right. that is a really revolutionary description. wow. but no, really, what i mean, is not just a moment in time, but a moment of mind, of movement, moments that are there, but that you don’t really see. when you have a model jump, for example, and capture the moment, where she has left the ground, seems to be floating and it seems as if it was photoshopped (which it was not, as we are talking about this picture from 1957).

richard avedon’s work is being exhibited at foam museum in amsterdam. and we so wanted to see his work as he has single-handedly changed photography; in fashion, in portraits and so much more… before him models used to be like statues showing the garments; avedon made them jump, crawl, hang over roulette-tables, move on Continue Reading…

…on an average thursday

a beautiful location, the lloydstraat in rotterdam where I lecture at the netherlands maritime university and shipping and transport college. so when you stand at the 12th floor and look towards the wilhelminapier, where Hotel New York is supposed to be, you can see something like this:
