a beautiful location, the lloydstraat in rotterdam where I lecture at the netherlands maritime university and shipping and transport college. so when you stand at the 12th floor and look towards the wilhelminapier, where Hotel New York is supposed to be, you can see something like this:
my friends mariette and geoff had watched my band more than four years ago at the jazzfestival in breda. true, this was one of the phattest gigs we have done in the 13 years we have played together… in breda, all of the people probably had seen a lot of very fancy jazzmusicians and were up for an uncomplicated party-evening with the Dr. Hendriks Groove ‘Xpress… the square next to the church was jampacked and despite of some drizzle, all of the people were jumpin’up and down and partying like never before!
that evening, mariette and geoff said if they would ever get married, we needed to come, perform with the band and party! august 15th 2008, we played for 3 hours and had a blast! you know how at the end of an incredible evening, everyone wonders off into the night with sweaty, blushy cheeks? almost everyone did that night…
anyway, the brother of mariette, bjarne had written a special song for his sister and then-still-to-become-brother-in-law called “the sun”… beautiful lyrics, which you can find here…
i was so amazed by the beauty of the song, that i offered bjarne to have him record the song in my studio and do some additional production on it, if need be…
Special post for a special wine… Let me just tell you how amazed I was to drink a great wine from my state in Brazil… They began this production not longer than 10 years ago. The region is so warm, that impressed me very much with the way this Alicante Bouschet tastes. Complex aroma of red fruits, explosive chocolate flavor. Persistant endind taste. So worthy!

i cannot believe my mind, while I’m watching you
two instead of one, it’s life
in the middle, on top of being
a higher high, than I could ever justify
life as in expectations, as in future, as in joy
as in pain and it doesn’t cease
to amaze my rationalising spirit
which rises beyond my wildest dreams Continue Reading…
